For heavy-duty applications where surfaces endure repeated loading and abrasion, our 4140 flame hardened rolls deliver exceptional strength and wear resistance. Flame hardening heats the roll surface to around 1,600-1,700 °F (870-925 °C), then quenches it to form a martensitic layer with 50-60 HRC hardness while retaining a tough core.

How it works
Our 4140 rolls are machined to final dimensions, then the surface is flame-hardened by heating with an oxy-fuel flame and immediate water or polymer quenching. This transforms the surface to a martensitic structure with high hardness while the interior remains ductile. Case depth typically ranges from 0.04-0.20 in. After hardening, we finish grind or polish the surface to the required tolerance and roughness.
